Australian born photographer Vee Speers is based in Paris. Her latest work series entitled The Birthday Party is now a book in its second edition. Imagine that you are about 9 years old and was invited to a costume birthday party. Who would you be?

O ilustrador japonês Shinzi Katoh transformou seu trabalho em uma companhia de licenciamento. A quantidade de produtos é impressionante, de toalhas a garrafas, xícaras e bento boxes, copos, papelaria, bolsas, o que você imaginar. Dá vontade de ter um de cada, não dá?

Japanese artist Shinzi Katoh turned his work into a licensing company. Thera are so many products out there, like towels and stainless bottles, teapots and bento boxes, glasses, stationary, bags, whatever you can imagine. I wish I had one of each.

Essa enorme teia de rede foi feita para a mostra da galeria belga Z33 em Hasselt pelos designers da ForUse/Numen e pode ser visitada até dia 2 de Outubro. 

Tá, não foi feita especialmente para crianças, mas vamos combinar que tem tudo para ser um sucesso entre os menores de 1 metro, não?

This ginormous stretchy web of netting  was created by the For Use/Numen's designers and it can be seen/played with at belgian gallery Z33 in Hasselt until 2 October. Ok, it's not exactly made with kids in mind, but you have to agree with me that it will be a huge success among the ones with less than a meter of length, right?

Besides globes, I love maps in general. I always wanted to have a wall covered with a map. One day I'll get there.

Gloo nightlight from Boon doesn't require power cords. It's removable light balls don't get warm or break and lasts about 30 minutes in the dark. I hope they will keep monsters away too.

Spanish kids clothes brand Bobo Choses designs for girls and use materials that are always soft, comfortable and natural. 

The brand is more than just clothes. They make a huge effort in supporting ethical causes and charity. Their latest project, ACT, is a way to create a school for women in Bangladesh.

Lembram do sintetizador nos anos 80? Aquele instrumento que estava em absolutamente todas as músicas, até nas de elevador? Pois plástico era o sintetizador dos anos 50, uma novidade tão grande que se desse teriam inventado uma casa inteira feita dele. 

Uma das grandes artistas que adorava esse material era a designer de brinquedos checa Libuše Niklová (1934–1981). Dos anos 50 aos anos 80, Libuše criou animaizinhos e figuras com formas simplificadas para as crianças. Em 1963 ela teve a grande ideia de usar um tubo sanfonado de plástico que fazia barulhinho quando pressionado. O resultado foram vários animais "acordeão": um gato, um cachorro, uma ovelha e um leão, que podiam ser separados e remontados como se fosse um jogo de construção.

E é por isso, gente, que o Musée des Arts Décoratifs’ Toy Gallery em Paris está fazendo uma retrospectiva de seu trabalho.

Do you remember the synthesizer in the 80's? It was that musical instrument overused even in elevator music. Well, plastic was the synthesizer of the 50's, a novelty so big they would build entire houses if they could.

One of the great artists that loved this material was the Czech toy designer Libuše Niklová (1934–1981). From the 1950s to the 1980s, Niklová created simplified figurines and animals for kids to play. In 1963, she had the brilliant idea of using flexible pleated piping that squeals when pressed. The result was her “accordion” toys: a cat, dog, goat and lion that can be taken apart and reassembled like a construction game. 

And that's why, folks, that the Musée des Arts Décoratifs’ Toy Gallery in Paris is showing a retrospective of her work.

Uma hora essa molecada vai crescer. Uma hora eles vão querer um skate. Matraca-Trica, do alto de seus 6 anos, já namora o esporte faz um ano.

Winnipeg é uma cidadinha em uma campina Canadense. É a cidade mais fria fora da Sibéria e o inverno dura 6 meses. Saber o que e como brincar, fazer esportes e passar o tempo é uma necessidade. A temperatura cai para menos 30 ou 40 por longos períodos de tempo, com ventos que fazem esses menos 30 parecerem menos 50.

As crianças, pela sanidade da família, tem que sair de casa. Nessa cidade existem muitas trilhas para praticar skate. As estruturas acima são abrigos para o vento no meio do rio para quem faz as trilhas de skate.

Agora só falta alguma mãe levar um chocolatinho quente para aquecer os ossos.

Sooner or later kids will grow. Sooner or later they will want a skate. Matraca-Trica is flirting with one for the past year, and he's only six.

Winnipeg is a city of located on the Canadian prairie. It is the coldest city of its size outside of Siberia. Winter can last six months. So learning to celebrate winter - learning to take advantage of the opportunities that winter provides - makes sense. Temperatures drop to minus 30 and 40 for long periods of time, and winds that can make minus 30 feel like minus 50.

For the good of family's sake, kids have to go outside for a while. There are lots of skating trails in this city and this structure creates opportunities to find shelter from the wind.

Now the only thing missing in this picture is a mom bringing hot cocoa to heat the bones.

tiny & little issue #3

Estamos presenciando uma grande mudança em publicações. Acho uma delícia a ausência de limitações que as revistas online tem, em como usam a criatividade e exercitam a visão pessoal para passar sua mensagem. Por causa dessa liberdade artística toda elas estão se tornando inspiração para as outras mídias.

O novo número da revista australiana Tiny & Little está no site para a gente se deliciar com o tema: comida. Não precisa correr para as bancas porque não vai acabar, mas não deixe de dar uma passadinha lá para (literalmente) babar.

We are witnessing a big change in publications. I found so refreshing the lack of limitations that an online mag has, in how they exercise creativity and personal insight to pass a message. Because of all this liberty to do whatever they want, they are becoming inspiration for other kinds of media.

The latest issue of australian mag Tiny & Little is out, and this time the theme is food. Grab a bib (you will drool, be advised) and go check it out!

de.cor: mural

Eu procurei taaaanto esse quarto para mostrar quando inaugurei o de.cor e não achei. Foi mais uma dessas coisas que deixei passar sei lá por que. Ainda bem que as coisas vão e vem na internet e ele apareceu do nada de novo.

O pai, um criador de brinquedos que tem uma companhia que chama MAD Toy Design, pintou o mural no quarto do Aidan, seu filho.

I searched sooooooo for long this image to show here when I started the de.cor section. It was one of those things that I let go for no reason and later regretted. Luckily, things come and go in the internet and here it is again, to my delight.

Dad is a toy designer and has a company called MAD Toy Design, and painted this great mural in his son Aidan's room.
